Koothara Review

Koothara is the second film from the same team of the 2012 hit Second Show .Koothara is a one of a kind experimentation directed by Srinath Rajendran and written by Vini Vishwa Lal. It stars Mohanlal in an extended cameo, along with Bharath, Sunny Wayne, and Tovino Thomas in the lead roles. Set in an untold period, the film focuses on three engineering students, Koobrin (Bharath), Tharun (Tovino Thomas), Ram (Sunny Wayne), in a college campus and their adventures. ‘Koothara’ is the film done by Srinath Rajendran and Vini Vishwa Lal after Dulquar Salman’s debut film ‘Second show’.

The first half of the film basically revolves around the college and campus life of Koobrin, Tharun and Ram. Apart from these actors , Bhavana, Shritha Sivadas and Janani Iyer are also part of the cast.  ‘Koothara’ is Bharat’s 2nd Malayalam Venture after the huge success of ‘4 the people’ directed by Jayaraj which released back in 2004.The film’s first half basically revolves around the campus lives of these students. Srinath Rajendran has done an exceptional job in directing this young cast.Mohanlal’s get up in the movie has already become the talk of the town and the mystery surrounding his character is adding to the curiosity factor. The first half of the movie is characterized by lot of fun moments and comedy.

The second half of the movie deals with  Koobrin, Tharun and Ram’s college after life. The film takes on a new shape when these youngsters get in to new phases 0f experimentation with life. Superstar Mohanlal’s cameo is still the best thing in the film.  Mohanlal’s character stands out in the film not just due to the get up but also due to the curiosity his presence makes in the film.  Mohanlal’s ability to make impact on the audience can never be doubted again as he has made great impact with his role in ‘koothara’.

The music of the movie is done by Gopi Sundar. Seems like Music director Gopi Sundar is on a roll after his previous work in Bangalore days gaining attention and now the music in ‘Koothara’ is also becoming a trend among the youth. The movie is shot in Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Young cinematographer Pappu has done the cinematography. To be honest he has done an excellent job in capturing the scenic beauty and moments that make up the film.  The film is basically an experimentation by the ‘Second Show’ team. They have tried to go in to new and different perspectives with their film ‘Koothara’. In short the makers of the movie have tried out something that others are not willing to do. They experimented in all aspects and has collectively made this movie.
