Oozham Review

Oozham is one of the releases that released here in Kerala today as an Onam release. The flick was scripted and directed by Master Director Jeethu Joseph. Young Super Star Prithvi Raj Sukumaran had played the lead role in it. Oozham has been bankrolled by Fine Tune Pictures owned by C George and Anto Padijarekkara. One of the major anticipation factor that it had was that it is the second association of Prithvi Raj and Jeethu Joseph after the movie Memories which released in 2013 and became a box office success. If Memories was an investigation thriller, Oozham is a revenge drama, says Jeethu Joseph.
The plot of the movie revolves around a character played by Prithvi Raj, named Surya who is working in an IT company based in America. His family is settled in Coimbatore. While Suriya was in America his family members were murdered people send by a businessman and scientist named Marcus. The film deals with the revenge taken by Surya on them.
Jeethu’s last movie Life of Josoottty had not made much of an impact in box office and among critics as well. It was the first Malayalam movie he directed after the gigantic success of Drishyam, which still remains the biggest success in Mollywood history. Audience felt that as a director Jeethu did not showed control and intensity while narrating the story of Life of Josootty. But he had not given any scope of such criticism in Oozham as he had told the story with aggression and at the same time had total control over the proceedings. It is a revenge drama and there nothing fresh in the story. We had already saw these kind of stories in many revenge dramas. But Jeethu had made this movie stand apart from all of those by making it in a very different way and may be can use the phrase, never seen before manner.

Jeethu had made the visuals to speak more than the words and the use of Montages has been very good as well. He had presented the plot without any twists or suspense in it. But still it carried the curiosity element which made the audience glued to their seats. Prithvi Raj’s performance as Surya was the highlight of this movie. This man has really growing as actor with each of his movies and really given a controlled performance specially, in the emotional scenes. Special Mention has to be given to artists like Neeraj Madhav and Pashupathy as well for their performance in the flick. Artists like, Balachandra Menon, Seetha, Divya Pillai, Rasna, Jayaprakash, Kishore etc also done a very good job in it. DOP by Shamdat was one of the major highlight in its technical side and his visuals set the mood in the movie. Anil Johnson’s music was decent and Ayoob Khan’s editing was crisp as well. The VFX part deserves special mention as well and Tony had done a very good job in the movie just like he did in movies like Memories and Ennu Ninte Moideen before.
If you go without the burden of expectation that Drishyam and Memories given you, this Jeethu Joseph movie is a very good revenge action drama that will make you satisfied all the way.
