Dafedar is one of the Malayalam releases that hit the screens here in Kerala today. The film is directed by Johnson Esthappan and the director himself had written the screenplay and dialogues for the film. Tini Tom plays the lead role in this movie and it has been bankrolled by Jixon Thekkumthala and Jinu Mathew George under the banner of Eden Films.
The plot of this movie revolves around the character named Ayyappan, played by Tini Tom who has been the security personal or Dafedar of Collector for 40 years. He has nowhere to go after his retirement from the post, as he had no relatives. So he dress like a Dafedar every day and goes to office. While things going that way, an unexpected event happens in his life which turns his life upside down and the film tells about what happens next in his life after that incident. Johnson Esthappan had did a great job as a writer and director through this movie. His screenplay was intense, deep and he had great control over the proceedings on screen as a writer and director. He convinced the audience about the situation in which each characters are in and told the story in an intense manner to touch the heart of the viewer emotionally. There dramatic elements in the plot and it was essential to make the emotional scenes and situations convincing.
When it comes to the performances, we have to say that Tini Tom had given the career best performance of him in this movie. He had lived as Ayyappan and this character may help him to win some great recognitions. Others like Malavika Nair, had given a matured performance and she was very convincing as well in her performance. Sudheer Karamana also did a fine job. Others like Devan, Geetha Vijayan, Indarns, Jayakrishnan, Kavitha Nair, Yathikumar, Kalbhavan Rehman, Nandu puduval and Sreeya Ramesh also had given a decent performance.
The DOP from Sudheer K Sudhakar was nice and the music scored by Ilaya Raja has been great as well. Editing was done by Mentos Antony and it was fine too.
In Total, Dafedar is a cinema with great quality and it is one film which shows you what life really is. It is a film for the lovers of quality films and it will never disappoint you if you love good cinema.
